U.S. BLS Not to Release Employment Report on Friday
"The Employment Situation release for January 2026 will not be released as scheduled on Friday, February 6, 2026. The release will be rescheduled upon the resumption of government funding," BLS said in a statement.
The agency confirmed the nonfarm payrolls report—a key economic indicator closely watched by markets, policymakers, and investors—will remain under wraps until Congress resolves the funding impasse.
Additional labor market data has also been frozen. The statement revealed that the JOLTS job openings report for December 2025 would not be published as planned.
BLS officials pledged to restore regular operations and update the data release calendar once federal funding resumes.
The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) report for December similarly faces indefinite postponement, the agency confirmed, reiterating it would announce schedule modifications after the government reopens.
Federal operations ground to a partial halt following congressional failure to finalize legislation for a budget package the Senate approved on Jan. 30.
The measure—returned to the House of Representatives after amendments—is slated for a vote Tuesday, potentially ending the shutdown and clearing the path for delayed economic data releases.
