Employment and Labour creates COIDA Awareness in the Northern Cape, 14 to 15 Sep
The Department of Employment and Labour’s Compensation Fund continues to raise Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Disease Act (COIDA) awareness sessions for Exempted Employers and Hospitality Sector from the 14th – 15th of September 2026 in Kimberly, Northern Cape Province.
The Fund has been holding these sessions since the beginning of the current financial year in several provinces, like Mpumalanga, Western Cape, Gauteng and Eastern Cape respectively.
These sessions are an integral part of the CF continuous efforts to encourage compliance with COIDA and bringing services closer to various sectors and educate them on the new Regulatory Developments.
The Exempted Employers Workshop will address COIDA compliance, Claims Management and Reporting requirements. According to Section 83, Exempted Employers are Employers who are not required to pay Annual Assessments to the Compensation Fund because they are individually liable for compensating their employees for occupational injuries and diseases. These employers include National and Provincial Departments, and some Municipalities.
The Northern Cape has a total of 1246 registered Hospitality Employers in the province, with only 498 compliant employers, resulting in a 39.97% compliance rate and 60.03% non-compliance.
In Kimberly, which is in the Northern Cape province, there is a total of 215 registered Hospitality Employers with only 89 having been compliant, resulting in a 41.39% compliance rate. Given the sector's low compliance rate, this engagement session will provide an opportunity to better understand COIDA policies and processes, resulting in improved compliance thereof.
